The Fiji Mermaid is one of the images in the Ransom & Mitchell Rough & Ready Sideshow a menagerie of timeless tales and rare specimens lovingly recreated in remembrance of the once-common traveling carnival.
This image was created by combining an original photo of a graceful model with original photos of a variety of antique cabinets which were composited to create her aquarium.
The mermaid tail was sculpted and painted with CG. The backdrop was digitally painted as a mural to complete the scene.
The final image was placed inside a faux border and the details were digitally created to give the illusion of embossed and aged paper.
