“The character September Mourning is a vigilante part human/ part reaper, caught between the world of the living. She exists in “Mortem,” a world in which all reapers bring the souls from the human world when they have died – a holding space until they move on into the afterlife.  Mortem is an abandoned city comprised of different buildings, streets, etc from different countries in different times.  … Mortem Hotel is the place where September keeps her souls along with a large bound book that is the “book of dreams and nightmares.” …  September’s uses a Skullfly moth to collect souls and to communicate with a reaper named Riven who is imprisoned inside an old statue within Mortem by vengeful Fate.”
